Ways to avoid transmission problems

One of the most important parts of your car is your transmission. And it is not just one of the most important part but also one of the most expensive to repair or replace. It is an expensive part to repair or replace. That is the reason why you have to take care of it.If you will not then it can cost you a lot of money. So here are some of the ways to better take care of your car’s transmission.

First of all one of the minor things that always causing big problems is the fluid.  Not having enough transmission fluid causes so much damage that I see it happen all the time in my Vista auto repair shop. What’s sad about this is the fact that it could have been avoided.A person just needs to make sure that his/her car’s fluid levels is always checked. If the fuid levels are already low then go and get her filled up.  It is an easy task but can save a lot of money.

Second thing you want to do is make sure to not shift gears while moving. You would be surprised at the number of cars that come in damaged in my Oceanside transmission repair shop from this problem alone.Do not be too impatient and hot headed that you would shift gears while moving.  It is another thing that is easy to do. But when you fail to do it, you damage your transmission little by little.

Finally, do not let your transmission overheat. An overheated transmission will be damaged more easily.  I always advise my La Costa auto repair clients to make sure to add a coolant type of additive to their fluid. This will help your transmission to run cooler.

If a person abides by these tips then his/her car’s transmission will have the ability to last longer.Failure to do so will hurt them financially and their transmission willhave a shorter lifespan.Since these things are so easy to do then it won’t be so much of a bother.

How to detect transmission problems

One of the most costly to be replaced parts of your car is the transmission. Sometimes, replacing the automatic transmission costs more than replacing your car with a new one.  With that in mind it is important for car owners to make sure to care for it. One of the ways to do that is to pay attention to your car. What I mean to say is that there are signs to tell you if there is something going on with your transmission. Because repairing minor problems is better and cheaper than full blown damages.

The first sign that you can easily see and look out for is a leak.  A lot of times I have cars brought into my Vista auto repair shop where the problem started with a simple leak.Red leaks are what you should be on the lookout for.  If the fluid you find on the ground is red that is the transmission. And damages can be incurred if your car’s fluid levels are low.  If you find a red leak immediately fill up more transmission fluid.  Then take it to a shop to have the leak fixed.

Another thing you want to look for is noise and vibrations from your transmission.  From my experience running my La Costa transmission repair shop those noises are a sign of a couple of things.  It could be a sign of low fluid.Or your car’s transmission cables are damaged. You should immediately have your car looked at by an auto expert to address those problems.

Finally, you should always be on the lookout for an overheating transmission. That will be the biggest proof that your transmission is having problems. I see all the time cars brought into my La Costa auto repair shop that had that problem.  Most of the times it was brought in too late. So, instead of undergoing a minor repair only it became a major repair.

You can avoid major expenses if you just follow those steps and observe your car.It is as simple as watching out for signs and it can save you a lot of money.

Getting your transmission to go longer

One of the most costly repairs on a car is the transmission. It is a repair that you do that you really don’t want to hear you have to do.So without question people are searching for methods to get their car to last longer.  Or they want to know if it is even possible. Like anything it is possible.  You can make it last longer by making sure to take care of them. But here are some more things that are more specific in helping your transmission get more life.

First thing you have to do without fail is keep the proper levels of fluid.Just like most things in your vehicle you want to have your fluids at the right level.  But with a transmission it is crucial if you want your car to last longer.  Whenever a client takes there car in to the La Costa transmission repair shop I run I always check their fluids.  I also recommend they always keep a close eye on their fluid levels.  If they run their car with low fluids they will surely ruin their transmission.Or it will not give them as much life as they want.

Second thing they can do is that heat kills transmissions. So you will want to do some things that will help your transmission to run cooler.  One of the best ways to do that is to add transmission cooler.  You can easily find it at most auto parts dealers.  Of course when clients come and bring their cars in to our Vista auto repair shop we add it in also. This gives the transmission the ability to run cooler.

Finally here is a simple one.Do not ever attempt to shift gears while the car is in motion. You will be shocked at how many people do ruin their vehicles because they shifted the gear while the car was in motion.  I am not because we see it all the time in our La Costa auto repair shop.People have their cars come in with transmissions ruined because they tried to shift while it was moving.

One of the most expensive parts of the car to fix is the transmission. Damaging your transmission can cost several thousand dollars. The sad thing about this is that it could have been avoided.  Of course you can completely avoid all car problems. But your chances of avoiding it would greatly increase your if you follow the 3 tips that we will discuss.

So the first tip would be to always observe your car. This tip is free but you should always do it.What I mean when i say pay attention is to look out for leaking fluids. Are the gears shifitng roughly?  Those are signs of problems. All my clients of my Escondido auto repair always get a list of what they should look out for between maintenance.

Second tip is also free.  It is also something you have total control of.That is, taking care of your cars by driving well.  A lot of people drive their car hard. They don’t realize that their cars also need maintenance and care.  A lot of the times the cars that need to be repaired in my Oceanside auto repair shop you can tell which cars weren’t taken care of.  Usually it also means they spend a lot more money in repairs.  So do the right thing and take care of your car.

Final tip will cost you some money. But spending money on this tip will save you more money in the long run.And that would be preventive maintenance. You should bring your car in for regular check-ups.It’s just like a person going to a doctor for a general checkup of his health.  Same thing take your car in to keep it running great.  That way you can avoid problems. And you would also be able to catch early problems. The earlier you can detect problems would be good since there would be less expenses on repairs.

So use these tips wisely.  It is what I give to all my clients of my Oceanside auto repair. It can make them save a lot of money on repairs.

Checking transmission problems at home

October 25th, 2009

One auto repair for your car that is very expensive is doing some transmission repair. It is a major part of your vehicle.Making sure to care for it is important.By doing some maintenance on your car you will end up saving a lot of money.Since it is something you won’t be able to fix yourself, you still can do some checking at home.By doing the checking first at home, you can verify if you really need to bring it in.

First off since I own a Vista auto repair shop I know how expensive transmission repairs can be.  So I always tell my clients to check a couple of things first. This way you can double check to see if it really needs to be brought in.First thing they can do is check the fluid.  The fluid should be clear. If the fluid is dark or black that is an indication of a problem and they have to bring their car in.

A second thing they can look at is how the gear shifts.  You do this by moving your gear from park to drive.  Or you can move it from park to reverse.  What you are looking for is for the gears to shift smoothly.  You don’t want any jerking motion. If you find that your car is jerking that is an indication of problems with your transmission.  In my La Costa transmission repair shop this is one of the big signs of transmission problems.  A lot of cars that come in have this very problem.

Lastly you can see if there could be any leaking of your transmission fluid. This is another thing you can do with your dipstick. But you won’t be able to tell unless you do this checking regularly.  I advise all my customers in my La Costa auto repair shop to always check your fluids.People know how to check for oil.But their transmission fluid is something they need to check also. This gives you the ability to tell if the fluid is leaking.

If you follow these tips you can make sure your car’s transmission stays good.
