Can you believe this – Easy Jet say that people over 15 and half stone are too fat to fly!
There was a story that I spotted, that I couldn’t believe, but found out it was true. Easy Jet have allegedly told a woman that she cannot fly because she is too fat, and that if she wanted to, then she would have to buy herself two tickets to support her.
This was really an eye catching article, and i needed to read more into it. I carried on and, then i saw something truly astonishing. Basically the woman had booked a flight with Easy Jet and was waiting to board the flight. She was stopped from getting on the plane and was asked in-front of all the other passengers to step on to some scales! They weighed her and she came to a total of 15 and a half stone (98 kilograms), and then proceeded to tell her that she was “too fat to travel, and would need to buy another ticket to board the plane”.
Now 15 stone may be overweight, but it really isn’t all that much. What if a tall rugby player were to come through, they can weigh up to 19 stone. The problem that really shocks me is how this procedure was carried out, there was dignity spared for this woman.
Quite literally she was marched onto the scales in front of everyone. If you don’t believe me then search it on the Internet. And this woman is now taking legal action against the airline and quite rightly as well. Now I am a relatively slim person, but I don’t believe that anyone should be subjected to this truly disgusting behaviour.
Should airlines be allowed to get away with this? The problem is that when discrimination comes into this the airlines will soon have to build bigger seats to support the larger man or woman. What they certainly shouldn’t be doing is humiliating and embarrassing potential future customers and current customers as they have done in this situation.
For Christmas holidays, St Lucia holidays or Barbados holidays, maybe you should find an airline that will actually care about you, and treat you the way should be.
