Experience Something New – Volunteering!

July 22nd, 2010

Ever thought about volunteering abroad ? Perhaps volunteering in Malawi? Popular activities now include volunteering in Nyeri. Why not spend time on your gap year embarking on an African adventure? Why not combine your volunteer project in Africa helping the people who really need it with an adventure holiday. You have the opportunity to go on safari to see the big 5 of Africa, climb Africa’s highest peak, Mt Kilimanjaro and visit the spice island of Zanzibar. This is one of the best opportunities you may ever experience so take it while you can.

It is a great choice to combine the volunteering and adventure aspects. This is something we strongly recommend if you want to make the most out of your trip to Africa. Volunteering is not necessarily a lot of physical hard work but it can on many occasions be emotionally draining. If you are considering taking part in a gap year then Africa is one of the best destinations to do it. It has a wide variety of activities to take part in as well as great opportunities for volunteers unsurprisingly as Africa is the poorest continent in the world.

Although Africa is rich in culture and has a wide range of diversity on the continent, sadly there are many areas most notably on the outskirts of major cities such as Cairo, Nairobi and Cape Town are home to people so poor they cannot afford food, health care and school. These areas are rife with diseases such as HIV and AIDS which is where these areas are home to so many orphaned children. A few weeks spent in these places, helping with volunteering teaching or as a volunteer medical assistant, really can change people’s lives.

You can help change the lives of many people in the poor communities of Africa. Life is hard for many here and they need as much help as they can get. It is truly inspiring to see how these people cope under these conditions and is great to see the self esteem within the locals boosted when volunteers offer their help.

Travelling By Air – UK To South Africa

February 8th, 2010

There are quite a number of options for flight from UK to South Africa. This makes it easy for you to even choose a convenient airport to fly from. For example you can either depart from London (LON), London Heathrow (LHR), Glasgow (GLA), Manchester (MAN), Newcastle (NCL) or Birmingham (BHX) airport.

Then you also have a variety of options on which airport you will be landing at in South Africa. There are about 10 airports there but there are only 3 international airports i.e. the OR Tambo International airport in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban international airports. Unless you definitely have an interest in the other cities then OR Tambo airport is good arrival point.

In fact most of the flights that eventually get to Durban or Cape Town from UK make a stop at Johannesburg first.

London (LON), UK to Johannesburg, South Africa

There are six flights you can consider booking for this route. That is, Swiss air, Lufthansa, Emirates, Air France, Etihad Airways and the South Africa airways. South African Airways is the only one that offers a non stop flight.

This gives it the shortest flight time of bout 11 hours and 35 minutes. This flight will leave London for Johannesburg at 18.00 hrs and arrive at 07.25 hrs the next day.

If you want an early departing flight then you can book with Air France. It lives London at 06:40 and flies to South Africa via Paris De Gaulle. It will arrive there at 09.00hrs and takes off for Johannesburg at 10.30 hrs where it will arrive at 22.00 hrs.For more information and detals about airfares and travel arrangements check out any of these:

Touring Africa

January 27th, 2010

There are a number of things to think about when considering traveling to Africa. Whichever country that you decide to visit you will most likely be going by Air. The airline industry now has a many players in it you have many options to choose from when it comes to the airline that you will choose.

If you want to make great savings on the airfares you can think about some of the following points that I will mention below. Firstly like I said before the industry is not dominated by the major airlines anymore, the smaller airlines have been a welcome relief for passengers and consumers as prices have drastically come down because of the increased competition.

What you need to do is schedule your visit appropriately. The prices of air tickets are not fixed and so you can never get any quotations for a particular airline. What you could possibly get is an estimate. The reason for this is that the prices vary according to the day of the week and the time of the year.

Airfares for week day travel are always cheaper than fares for weekend travel. Most people reserve traveling for over the weekends and this is referred to as the peak period of travel. Since the seats on any flight are always limited the prices tend to be higher. The time of the year is another thing that affects airfares. The peak period and seasons are not standard they will vary between the airlines.

Check out one of these for a comprehensive guide to flights to South Africa:distance from durban to east london cape town to joburg flight flights cape town to bloemfontein

Be sure that you have got the current quote when you are making a booking. You can book your ticket by making a reservation at the airlines ticket office or make a booking by phone. However you will always get a discount by making an online booking. This is because you save the airline money in terms of personnel, stationary and printing. You can always get information from any travel agency or tour guide operator.
